5 Stay at Home Jobs for the Single Mom

Some of the most admirable people I’ve ever met are single moms. A single mom has to take on the roll of mother, father, and provider for her children. It’s a challenging life, but you’ll find most take on the challenge without any complaints. They’re the closest thing to real superheroes that we’ll probably ever meet. Probably the biggest challenge they face is trying to juggle a career while still being there for their children when needed. We’ve put together a list of 4 great jobs single moms can do from home around their already hectic schedules and help them make some extra money.

Tutoring

Just because you’re a single mom it doesn’t mean you don’t have a lot of skills to offer. If you’re a university or college graduate you may want to consider the option of becoming an online tutor. There are many different sites that are always looking to hire online tutors, so if you’re qualified this can be a great choice. Remember to adjust the height, tilt and lumbar settings on your home office chair though as once you get started tutoring a child you will have to remain in that seated position for quite a while. This may be the main drawback of tutoring – it does allow you to work from home, but it also requires some structure as you have to work on a specific schedule.

Freelance Writing

As a writer myself I think the second option on our list may be the best choice for single moms. A freelance writer has a lot of freedom to choose which projects they want to work on and when they want to do it. There are many different jobsites you can use to find work this way and there are always clients looking for help. Don’t worry if you’re writing skills aren’t quite as good as you would like it is something you can get better at with practise. If you want to get started just do a quick search and you’ll be amazed at the options out there.

Data Clerk

If you’re not overly confident with your skill set tutoring or freelance writing may seem a little scary. Another good idea is to search out some basic data entry jobs. These can typically be performed anywhere and anytime. It’s a little tedious and it’s certainly not a glamorous job, but clients are usually quite flexible and that means you can fit it in your schedule whenever you have time.

Online Customer Service

For those that aren’t bothered by having to work a set schedule an online customer service roll could be a great option. If you’ve visited a site with a button that you can click to talk to a customer service representative you’ll know what I’m talking about. This can be a rewarding and challenging job. You get to share some of your personal wisdom with others and you get to do it from your Livingroom. That’s not a bad gig and it’s probably ideal for a mom looking to make some money while the kids are at school.

The Sales Game

One final option I want to mention is what I like to call the Sales Game. With a bit of research you can find products that are in high demand and purchase them in bulk through Amazon or eBay. The trick is then to turn around and sell them individually at a profit through a service such as eBay. There are people who do quite well at this sort of thing, but it’s not for everybody. If you’ve always had a knack for the art of the deal this may be just the type of opportunity you’ve been looking for.
