How to Stay Fit and Be a Great Single Mom

If there’s one thing the single mom doesn’t have a lot of, it’s spare time. There are so many demands on your time, between the kids, the career, and trying to run a household, that you have very little opportunity for anything else. So how do you find the time to keep fit and healthy so that you have the strength and stamina to handle all of these competing demands? Let’s face it – you don’t have time for a gym membership; it’s just not practical.

The best solution is to try to fit in a workout at home whenever you can, and that means having the right equipment on hand, such as a treadmill or an elliptical. You might want to start by checking out the latest treadmill trends for solutions that can be useful in real life, and if a treadmill is not for you, perhaps one of the other ideas below will suit you better.

Get the Kids Involved

A fun way to stay fit and to spend quality time with the kids is to get them involved in your exercise program. This is one of my favorite options, and I can tell you my kids are only too happy to participate. If you’ve got a local walking trail near your house, get out and hit the trail, and bring the kids along. If you’re worried about their pace slowing you down, let them bring their bikes. They’ll have fun and you’ll get the exercise you need as well. Try to turn it into a daily after-dinner routine and you’ll reap the rewards of a healthy new you in no time.

Video Workouts

There are plenty of great video workout programs out there that can help you change your life for the better. For these, it might be best to subscribe to a site like BeachBody that allows you to choose from a variety of different workout programs and styles so that you can find one that you actually like. The other benefit of a system like this is that you can mix it up once in a while to keep things interesting. The overwhelming majority of people who quit their workout programs do so because they get bored with the same routine. This kind of system is an effective solution to that problem.

Lean on Parents, Family, or Friends

Another great method for finding time to squeeze a workout into the busy schedule of a single mom is to enlist help. We often let our pride get in our way, not wanting to admit that we can’t do everything ourselves. But that’s ridiculous! Everyone needs help from time to time. For most of us there’s bound to be parents, family members, or friends that are more than willing to help out. I know my parents love spending time with the kids and are happy to lend a hand while I hit the gym or the local hiking trail. In most cases, you just have to ask the question. So it’s time to stop making excuses, and get started on the path to a healthy new you.
