Taking Time to Pamper Yourself

Taking Time to Pamper Yourself

There’s no argument – being a single mom can be challenging. Between getting the kids off to school, rushing to your 9 to 5 job, and then scurrying back to pick up the kids for after-school activities, where do you find time for yourself? The answer is simple – you have to make the time. Reward yourself with little gifts that make you feel special and like it’s all worth it. A simple thing may be the little lift in your day – think of buying make up, a hair dryer, or, in my case, a curling iron, because this is best for a curly hairdo.

Here are some other small things you can do on a limited budget to remind yourself you’re still an individual – with your own needs and desires.

Mommy Movie Night

There’s nothing quite like a good movie to transport you away from all of your troubles and let you catch a glimpse of another world, even if it is just for a moment. The challenges of our lives aren’t going to go away, but there’s nothing wrong with putting them out of sight in a little compartment for a couple of hours while you eat some popcorn and stare at the flat screen in your living room with intense concentration. There are plenty of great movies out there, but if you’re looking for some inspiration, you may want to check out the Internet Movie Database’s list of top 100 chick flicks of all time. There are a lot of great movies here, and if you’re someone who happens to prefer the action movies, imdb is a great place to look for these movies as well.

The Home Spa Treatment

With little time for yourself after spending most of your day trying to give your kids the best life possible, you may not have the opportunity to spend a few hours at that exclusive spa in the country. There’s also the small matter of trying to justify the expense if your adorable little girl should need a new pair of glasses. Like most single mothers, you’re always going to choose your daughter’s needs over your own, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for compromise. The first step is to make sure you have all of the supplies you’ll need to give yourself a home spa treatment, such as loofahs, essential oils, and a face and body cleansing scrub. You just have to wait until the kids are tucked away in bed, and then it’s time to transport yourself away to that home spa. Curling Up with a Good Book

I love movies as much as the next person, but for me there’s nothing quite like a good book to take me away from all of the troubles of life and make me forget about everyday things for a while. Books allow you to envision a world as your novel pictures it, and that can be an incredibly rewarding experience. We all have our own favorite genres and this makes it hard to point you in the right direction, but a great place to start is the New York Times best seller list. There’s a good chance you’ll find a great read that appeals to your own tastes on this list.
